In Act 1 Scene 3 of Macbeth, Macbeth says, "By Sinel's death I know that I am Thane of Glamis;",
but according to the BBC History website, Macbeth's father's name is Finlay or Findlaich.
It turns out, because Shakespeare was using Holinshed's Chronicle as his source of historical information, Shakespeare got some misinformation.
I suppose we should forgive William of some of his inaccuracies. A researcher is only as good as his or her sources.
